Uniin is a professional and educational social network designed for students, university applicants, and academic peers. This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through our website (uniin.uz), mobile applications, APIs, and related online services.

By accessing or using Uniin, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the collection and use of your information as outlined in this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect information that you directly provide to us, information generated automatically during your use of the platform, and information from authorized third-party authentication services.

• Account Registration: Your full name, email address, password hash, username (slug), and basic contact details.
• Profile & Academic Information: Educational background, high school or lyceum, current or target universities, intended majors, GPA/academic records, standardized test scores (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, SAT), extracurricular achievements, honors, and biography.
• Google OAuth Authentication: When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google User ID, verified email address, full name, and avatar image. We do not access your Google contacts, Google Drive, or any other personal Google data.
• User-Generated Content: Posts, articles, comments, replies, reactions, questions, polls, uploaded images/media, study group messages, and direct chats.
• Activity & Usage Data: Information about how you interact with feeds, explore topics, groups, notifications, and connections, used to curate a personalized experience.
• Technical & Device Information: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, language settings, and secure session cookies.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information strictly for legitimate educational, operational, and community purposes:

• To provide, maintain, and securely operate your account and authenticate your identity.
• To help you connect with peers, find mentors, join study groups, and discover relevant educational opportunities.
• To personalize your academic feed with posts, discussions, and updates relevant to your target universities and interests.
• To send essential administrative communications, including email verifications, password resets, account security alerts, and notification digests you have enabled.
• To protect our community against harassment, abuse, fraudulent credentials, spam, and security vulnerabilities.
• To analyze platform stability, improve user experience, and comply with applicable legal obligations.

Data Sharing & Third-Party Services

We do not sell, rent, trade, or monetize your personal information to third parties or advertisers. We only share data in the following transparent scenarios:

• With Other Members: Information you publish publicly (such as your profile, posts, comments, and public achievements) is visible to other Uniin members in accordance with your privacy and discoverability settings.
• Trusted Infrastructure Providers: We partner with industry-standard cloud and infrastructure providers (such as hosting, managed PostgreSQL database, ImageKit for CDN media delivery, and email delivery services). These providers process data on our behalf under strict data protection and confidentiality agreements.
• Google Authentication: Authentication tokens and IDs are exchanged securely with Google OAuth servers strictly for verification and sign-in.
• Legal & Safety Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or when necessary to protect the safety, rights, and integrity of Uniin and our users.

Data Security & Storage

We implement robust technical and organizational security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction:

All communications are encrypted in transit using Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.3 / HTTPS). Passwords are cryptographically hashed using industry-standard bcrypt algorithms. Authentication sessions are protected with secure, HttpOnly, SameSite cookies and JSON Web Tokens (JWT).

While no internet transmission or electronic storage is completely impenetrable, we continuously monitor and update our security protocols to protect your personal information.

Your Rights & Privacy Controls

We provide comprehensive tools within your account settings to give you full control over your personal data:

• Profile Privacy & Discoverability: You can choose whether your profile appears in search suggestions, hide sensitive academic test scores, or make specific details visible only to connections.
• Access & Portability: You can view, update, or download a full machine-readable archive of your personal profile and account data via Settings → Data Privacy.
• Notification Preferences: You have granular control over push and email notifications and can toggle alerts for messages, comments, likes, and mentions.

Account Deletion & Retention

You have the right to delete your Uniin account at any time directly from Settings → Data Privacy.

When you submit a deletion request, your profile and content are immediately hidden from public view. We provide a 30-day grace period during which you can cancel the deletion simply by logging back in.

After 30 days, your account is permanently deactivated and all personal identifiers (name, email, credentials, and profile attributes) are permanently purged from our active databases. Messages sent to other users may remain visible to the recipient but will display as sent by a deactivated user.

Student & Minor Privacy

Uniin is dedicated to supporting students preparing for higher education. Our platform is strictly intended for individuals aged 13 and older.

We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. If we discover that a user under 13 has registered without verified parental consent, we will promptly terminate the account and delete their personal data.

For users between 13 and 17, we strongly encourage reviewing these terms with a parent or legal guardian.

Policy Updates & Inquiries

We may periodically revise this Privacy Policy to reflect platform enhancements, legal requirements, or community feedback. When material changes occur, we will notify you through an in-app notice or via email.

Continued use of Uniin following any posted revisions constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
